Undergraduate students enrolled at the University of Wisconsin-Madison may apply for the Digital Cinema Production Certificate if they meet two criteria:
- Completed Com Arts 355: Introduction to Media Production and earned a grade of a B or higher. Course cannot be repeated for certificate eligibility.
- Earned a grade of a B or higher in first certificate elective course:
- Com Arts 465: Editing and Post-Production
- Com Arts 466: Writing for Film and Television
- Com Arts 467: Cinematography and Sound Recording
- Com Arts 468: Producing for Internet TV and Video
- Com Arts 609: Special Topics Course in Production
- Com Arts 651: Advanced Video Production and Direction
Courses
The certificate requires a minimum of four courses, totaling 13 credits.
1) Introduction:
- CA355: Introduction to Media Production (4 cr) and earn a grade of B or higher. This course is not repeatable.
2) Elective for Eligibility – Complete 1 of the following courses and earn a grade of B or higher:
- CA465: Editing and Post Production for Film and Video (4 cr)
- CA466: Writing for Film and Television (3 cr)
- CA467: Cinematography and Sound Recording (4 cr)
- CA468: Producing for Internet TV and Video (3 cr)
- CA609: Special Topics: Media Production (3 cr)
- CA651: Advanced Video Production and Direction (3 cr)
3) Electives – Complete 2 additional courses from the list below:
- CA465: Editing and Post Production for Film and Video (4 cr)
- CA466: Writing for Film and Television (3 cr)
- CA467: Cinematography and Sound Recording (4 cr)
- CA468: Producing for Internet TV and Video (3 cr)
- CA609: Special Topics: Media Production (3 cr)
- CA651: Advanced Video Production and Direction (3 cr)
- CA659: Advanced Motion Picture Production Workshop (4 cr)
Residence and Quality of Work
To earn the Digital Cinema Production Certificate, students must earn a minimum 2.000 GPA on required Certificate coursework and at least 7 credits toward the Certificate must be earned in residence.
This Certificate must be completed concurrently with the student’s undergraduate degree. Students cannot delay degree completion to complete the Certificate.
